by 22q Administrator

Dr. Nikolai Gil D. Reyes, a movement disorder neurologist pursuing his graduate studies at our Clinic, is one of the recipients of the 2024 Young Investigator Grant from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF). This grant will support his work from January 2025 to January 2027.

Adults with 22q are at a higher risk of developing early-onset Parkinson’s disease (PD), which is mainly characterized by motor symptoms of parkinsonism, including slowed movements, limb or body stiffness, tremor at rest, and trouble with balance and coordination. Dr. Reyes’ work aims to investigate potential genetic factors that affect the risk of parkinsonism related and unrelated to antipsychotic treatment using 22q11.2 microdeletion as a high risk model.

Congratulations, Dr. Reyes!
